Australian wins NZ Poker Championship

Australian David Borg outplayed compatriot Tony Hachem for the biggest win of his career in the New Zealand Poker Championship final in Christchurch at the weekend.

Borg took out the trophy and $100,000 in prize money.

"This is the biggest win of my career, I really can't believe it," he said.

"I knew I had the ability to win a big tournament but never thought it would actually happen."

The highest placed New Zealand player was Auckland-based John Pye who finished third and picked up a cheque for $34,000.
