A 70-year-old woman was found dead at a home in West Auckland on Friday night, sparking a massive response that included armed police officers, dog squads and the Eagle police helicopter.

Emergency services were called to a house in Glenvil Lane, Te Atatu Peninsula. A St John spokesman said the woman was dead when an ambulance arrived at 5.11pm.

He said two other patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries, understood to be shock.

A police spokeswoman said a body was found at an address in Te Atatu in "unexplained circumstances".

One of the residents living on the street, Steven Columbus said he was surprised to hear the news.

"It's just a quiet street...it's just shocking," he said. "I won't sleep for a few nights."
