Police have confirmed that a badly burned vehicle located near Kaikoura on Monday contained a body.
It had now been removed from the vehicle.
Tasman Police Crime Manager Detective Inspector Geoff Jago said the investigation was now centred on establishing the cause of the fire and formally identifying the body and notifying next of kin.
