Children airlifted from Mt Hutt

Two schoolchildren have been airlifted from Mt Hutt skifield this afternoon after being injured while skiing.

A 13-year-old girl, who was on a school trip to the popular Canterbury skifield, collided with another skier and it was initially feared she had suffered a spinal injury.

But Westpac rescue helicopter pilot Stuart Farquhar said the girl was recovering well, with concussion injuries.

Another young skier was flown off the mountain with an upper leg/hip injury.

It comes a day after a 32-year-old snowboarder was rescued from Mt Dobson skifield, suffering from spinal injuries, and rushed to Christchurch Hospital.

Mr Farquhar said while call-outs had been steady, it had not been a particularly busy season dealing with ski injuries.
