Cyclist still serious after hit-and-run

A cyclist who was badly injured in a hit-and-run in the Auckland suburb of Highland Park is still in a serious condition in hospital a week later.

The woman was struck by a car and thrown into oncoming traffic on Aviemore Drive, near the Bradbury Road intersection about 9pm last Friday.

Police said the cyclist had been walking with her bike along a median strip on Aviemore Drive when she was hit by a white SUV, which then fled the scene.

The police serious crash unit is appealing for members of the public with any information regarding the incident to come forward.

The woman remains in Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition, police said in an update today.
