Dann to replace Espiner at TVNZ

Breakfast host Corin Dann is set to replace Guyon Espiner as TVNZ's new political editor.

TVNZ head of news and current affairs Ross Dagan this morning announced Dann would take the job vacated by Espiner late last year.

His strong background in politics and economics made him a good pick for the role, Mr Dagan told the TVNZ website.

Dann is a former economics correspondent for Radio NZ and spent almost six years as a radio journalist in the Parliamentary press gallery.

TVNZ appointed him as its Breakfast host 15 months ago, following the departure of controversial former presenter Paul Henry.

He is looking forward to his new job despite being "extremely proud'' of his accomplishments on the show.

"Politics is my passion and I'm looking forward enormously to getting back to daily journalism in the gallery. I feel I've still got unfinished business there.''

He will begin his new position on May 21, just before the budget is announced.

An announcement on a replacement Breakfast presenter would be made in the coming weeks, TVNZ said.
