An Ashburton fugitive caught after 10 days on the run appeared in court today on family violence charges.

Christopher Allan Esmy Quinton, 41, was tracked to an Ashburton property and arrested yesterday.

He appeared from custody at Christchurch District Court this morning on five charges.

Quinton, whose charging documents list him as having "address unknown", is accused of breaching a protection order on June 23 and December 28 last year.

He is also accused of breaching a restraining order made under the provisions of the Children Young Persons and Their Families Act 1989.

Quinton is further charged with threatening to kill a woman on June 23 last year, and also possessing a knife that day, where he "showed an intention to use it to commit an offence involving the threat of violence".

Duty lawyer Phillip Allan made no bail application.

Judge Duncan Harvey remanded Quinton in custody without plea to next appear at Ashburton District Court on March 17 at 10am.
