Police are hunting a man who grabbed a 12-year-old girl from behind in the Wellington suburb of Mornington on Saturday night.
The man grabbed the girl about 8.30pm in the grounds of Ridgway School as she was heading to see a group of friends who were playing nearby.
The girl then screamed and the offender ran off, Detective Sergeant Luke Cameron said.
"Police are concerned about the intentions of this man, which left the victim scared and shaken," Mr Cameron said.
Police spent yesterday searching the area and spoke to witnesses who saw the man earlier in the evening.
The man was described as being Caucasian, in his mid-thirties, with dark hair and wearing a white top and beige or brown trousers.
Police wanted speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious around Mornington on Saturday night.
