Girl hit by truck in Ashburton

A girl hit by a truck in central Ashburton last night remains in a serious but stable condition in Christchurch Hospital.

The 11-year-old girl was hit by a truck and trailer unit while crossing State Highway 1 (West Street) near KFC about 4.45pm.

She was initially taken to Ashburton Hospital before being transferred to Christchurch Hospital where she was recovering from injuries including a fractured pelvis and femur, Ashburton police Sergeant Bryan Ennis said.

Mr Ennis said police were still speaking to witnesses from the crash, and were urging any witnesses they had not yet spoken to, to come forward.
