An 8-year-old Kawerau girl who fell 4m from a balcony and landed on her face remains in a stable condition in Middlemore Hospital's intensive care unit.
The girl fell from a balcony in Ohope and landed on her face, causing fractures to her face and jaw, on Monday.
She had been camping with her mother and father at Maungaronga Marae.
A local man, who didn't want to be named, said the girl had been playing with a ball with some other children and had leaned too far over a handrail.
She was taken to the Whakatane Hospital before being flown by the Westpac Air Ambulance to Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.
A Middlemore spokeswoman said today the girl was in a stable condition in intensive care.
