A man injured after striking rocks while kitesurfing on Lake Taupo at the weekend remains in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit.
Byron Smith, 25, of Taupo, was kitesurfing with a friend on Saturday when a strong wind gust picked him up and slammed him into rocks at Three Mile Bay.
He was knocked unconscious and taken to Taupo Hospital by ambulance, before being airlifted to Waikato Hospital.
The hospital said Mr Smith was today in a critical but stable condition.
