Man arrested after aggravated bank robbery

A 20-year-old man was arrested shortly after he robbed a Christchurch bank yesterday and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Inspector Rick Jury said that the man was nabbed about 2.20pm yesterday for the aggravated robbery of a bank in the St Martins suburb area.

Mr Jury said the man was arrested in Beckford St in the Riverlaw Terrace area and some clothing and money was found nearby.

"The man had worn white shoes, black tracksuit pants, a black long-sleeved T-shirt, black gloves, a black beanie or balaclava and a dark coloured scarf during the robbery."

Police want to hear from members of the public in the area who may have seen the robber, his clothing, or money.
