Man charged over Auckland stabbing death

A man has handed himself in and been charged in connection with the murder of 27-year old Nathan Albert in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Police investigating the homicide arrested a 38-year old Panmure man who will appear in Auckland District Court today charged with Crimes Act Assault.

Mr Albert died after being stabbed in Pilkington Rd, Panmure shortly after 4am on New Year's Day.

Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says the 38 year-old accused presented himself to police yesterday.

More serious charges may be laid as the investigation progresses, he said.

No weapon has been recovered and police still want to hear from anyone who has information about where it may be.
