A man charged in connection with the shooting of an Hawke's Bay gang member has been remanded in custody after appearing in Napier District Court today.
Nine months ago, a Black Power member shot and injured a Mongrel Mob member through the window of his car at the Mobil Station in Wairoa.
A 23-year-old Napier man had been arrested, police said today.
He entered no plea to a charge of being a party to attempted murder, when he appeared in court and was remanded by consent to reappear on Monday.
On October 29 2010, several shots were fired through the closed driver's window of the car, leaving the man with shotgun pellet wounds to his arm and body and internal injuries.
He was hospitalised, but had recovered.
The shooting, on a busy Friday evening in the main street, came three days after a Black Power associate was shot outside the Mongrel Mob headquarters.
The police investigation into the service station shooting was hampered by little co-operation from either gang.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford of Gisborne police said they were still seeking two other people in relation to the shooting.
"We have had some useful information from the public about these gang incidents, but we believe there are still people out in the community who know something that could be of value to us.
"It's important that those people come forward and speak to us so we can bring the offenders to account."
