Wellington police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a bus driver yesterday.
A man, armed with a screwdriver, boarded the bus as it was parked at a turn-around point at Lyall Bay about 8.30pm, Detective Sergeant John van den Heuvel of Wellington CIB said. The man demanded money from the driver, but was refused.
He got off the bus and was last seen running away on Queens Drive, towards Lyall Bay, Mr van den Heuvel said.
The driver was uninjured.
The man was described as of medium build, 18- 23-years-old, about 172cm tall and spoke with a New Zealand accent. He was wearing a dark hooded top, dark trousers, large lens sunglasses and his face was covered with a dark coloured bandana.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen any suspicious people or vehicles in the area at the time.
