A man suffered a suspected broken leg after three men came into his house and took a small amount of cash and a cellphone early this morning.
The 22-year-old man was taken to Christchurch Hospital following the incident.
He had surgery today, and was yet to be interviewed by police.
Police said the victim was unable to provide a detailed description of the offenders, but the men were described as wearing balaclavas.
It was possible the three men left the scene together in one vehicle.
Police have asked to speak to anyone who may have been in the Basingstoke St or Wimborne Cres area of Christchurch about 3am this morning.
Anyone who may have seen a vehicle, or a group of three men in the area, was asked to call Canterbury police on 03 363 7400.
