Police involved in a homicide investigation after a body was found at an Auckland city apartment yesterday are focusing inquiries on a man found injured at the scene.

A 30-year-old woman was found dead, while a man in his twenties was transferred to hospital after being treated by medics.

A police spokesman said last night the man was being spoken to and no one else was being sought in relation to the incident.

It is believed the woman was stabbed.

The woman's body was being removed from the Winchester St apartment in Newton last night. She resided at the apartment with two others, police said.

A post mortem will be held today.

A full scene examination of the apartment where she lived with two others will also begin today.

The man who called police to the apartments around 4pm is expected to be in hospital for several days under police guard. He is suffering from a serious injury to the hand.
