A person is dead after their car hit a horse near Matamata tonight.
The accident happened on Hopkins Rd, a rural road near Matamata, around 6:30pm, Inspector Ian Brooker said.
Mr Brooker said the dead person's details would not be released immediately.
The deceased person was the car's only occupant, a St John spokeswoman said.
A veterinarian was called to put the horse down, Insp Brooker said.
