A person is dead and another is seriously injured after a car and truck crashed near Lake Tekapo this morning.
Police said they were called to the scene of the crash on Fairlie-Tekapo Rd, 2km south of the lake just after 7am.
The driver of the car was killed in the crash and the truck driver was flown to hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The road remained open with traffic moving slowly, police said.
"Motorists are asked to avoid the area for the time being if possible, however anyone who may be travelling this road should allow extra time for their journey."
The Serious Crash Unit had been advised.
