Opotiki boy (15) pleads guilty to takeaway robbery

A 15-year-old Opotiki boy has pleaded guilty to a "gunpoint" robbery of the Good Tukka takeaway shop in the eastern Bay of Plenty town this month.

Following a family group conference at the Opotiki District Court last week, the teenager admitted aggravated robbery and was remanded in custody to a youth justice residence.

With a 13-year-old co-offender, the teenager walked into Good Tukka, on the corner of St John and Bridge streets, on the afternoon of June 3.

Both carried imitation pistols.

They demanded money and shop owner Cecilia Lao, who believed the guns were real, handed over between $80 and $100.

The 15-year-old was arrested later that day and the 13-year-old spoken to by police the following morning.

The 15-year-old's next court date is August 13 and he will be sentenced in the Opotiki District Court after a social worker report was prepared.

The 13-year-old is being monitored by the Department of Child, Youth and Family Services and being dealt with in the Family Court.
