Wellington International Airport was also clearing a suitable hangar space for the plane, The Dominion Post reported.
The $68 million Gulfstream G550 plane had been parked in Melbourne for lack of hangar space after Sir Peter took delivery of it in May.
The Civil Aviation Authority had now issued the air operator certificate which allowed the company managing the jet ExecuJet Aviation Australasia to base aircraft operations in New Zealand.
A G550 seats about 12 to 16 passengers and is capable of flying nonstop from Wellington to Los Angeles.
