Police said this morning Daniel Fincher is thought to be in the West Coast and Tasman areas. However, he is highly mobile with contacts across the country.
They warned the 36-year-old was a risk to the public and believed to have access to firearms. He should not be approached.
Fincher was "actively trying to avoid arrest", police said, and if spotted people should call 111 immediately.
Police said anyone who may be helping Fincher to avoid police could be prosecuted.
Anyone who has information about his whereabouts was urged to call 111 or Nelson Police on (03) 546-3840 and quote file number 181031/3367.
Information could also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
