Police still getting calls about Vanessa Pickering

Police are still fielding calls from the public about the death of Christchurch woman Vanessa Pickering.

"We're still receiving information which is very helpful," Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas said.

The body of Ms Pickering, 27, was found on Thursday evening at Godley Head, three days after she left her home in New Brighton with her daughter and a man in a turquoise Toyota Estima.

The seven-year-old girl was found wandering in a paddock the next day.

Ms Le Bas said the inquiry team was very interested to hear from anybody who was at Godley Head on Monday last week, especially from mid-afternoon.

"Anyone who saw a vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously, we'd like to hear it all. It all builds up the picture."

She said police were compiling information on Ms Pickering's death and would spend the next weeks going over it.

A 40-year-old man, who has been granted name suppression, was arrested in North Canterbury on Wednesday and charged with assault with intent to commit sexual violation, sexual violation, unlawful detention and assault on a child.

Anyone with information on Ms Pickering's disappearance or death was asked to call 027 2711308.
