New Zealanders should make the most of mild weather around the country today, as forecasters are predicting conditions to take a dive by the end of the weekend.
The upper North Island is first in the firing line, with periods of heavy rain forecast forecast for late Sunday.
MetService says the wet weather, caused by an approaching weather system, will bring in a deepening low and hit other parts of the country by Monday.
Those in the South Island should also expect heavy rain and winds and a fall in temperatures
"A strong onshore flow should bring a sustained period of rain, with some heavy falls across eastern and southern regions of the South Island," said meteorologist Daniel Corbett.
"This could fall as snow over inland parts of Southland and Otago, and south to southeast gales may affect coastal areas."
MetService have advised peole to keep an eye on weather updates as the incoming system may bring a potentially lengthy period of bad weather.
