Two people have been taken to Christchurch Hospital after serious crash involving a truck and car in the Selwyn District.

Emergency services were called after the collision  at the intersection of Main Rakaia Rd and Northbank Rd in Southbridge  about 6pm today.

One person was flown by rescue helicopter to hospital with serious injuries, while another person suffered moderate injuries and was transported in an ambulance.

Police said the road was closed and diversions were in place.
