A 90-minute crime spree caused extensive damage to several Christchurch businesses early today, police say.
Six businesses, including liquor stores and a pharmacy, were targeted by thieves.
Senior Sergeant Stephen McDaniel said they believed the break-ins may be linked, and they were making inquiries to work out what had been taken from the properties.
“The value of what has been stolen will not come close to the damage that’s been caused to hard-working businesses,” Snr Sgt McDaniel said this afternoon.
Two stolen vehicles were involved in the first three break-ins, which took place on Ensign St about 5.40am.
One of the cars was abandoned a short time later after being used to gain entry to a Wigram liquor store.
Following another burglary on Hawke St about 6.40am, a suspect vehicle was seen on QEII Drive, but officers opted not to pursue it due to dangerous driving behaviour.
The vehicle was later found abandoned on Dunbarton St in Redwood about 7.10am, near where another vehicle was reported stolen.
Snr Sgt McDaniel said police wanted to hear from anyone with dashcam footage, video or information that could help their investigation.
