Police have named a 19-year-old killed after crashing his skateboard in Whangarei yesterday.
He was Codie Haggison of Whangarei, one of two people to die on New Zealand's roads this weekend.
Senior Sergeant Howard Clement of Whangarei police told NZPA the man and his father had been skateboarding down a road in the suburb of Maunu.
"They had a couple of runs, then on the one in question he went a bit higher up the road, which was quite steep, and near the end of the road he veered off the path and slipped and fell onto the roadway... sustaining fatal head injuries."
The matter had been referred to the coroner , Mr Clement said.
A young mother was fatally electrocuted after crashing into a power pole in Marlborough, about 6pm yesterday.
The woman's car crashed off Cravens Rd, a gravel road in Spring Creek about 10km north of Blenheim, and snapped a power pole leaving the wires hanging loose.
She had been electrocuted and fatally burned as she got out of the car, police said.
Acting Sergeant Ian Mills of Blenheim Police said her six-month-old baby, a seven-month-old and a three year-old had been taken to Wairau Hospital.
TV3 reported that the woman's sister was also in the car, and had been flown to Wellington Hospital.
The dead woman's name had not been released because police were still contacting some of her next of kin who were in prison, Mr Mills said.
It was the only car involved in the crash.
Police were investigating.
