Slain farmer's sister runs for city council

The slaying of her brother has prompted Nikki Guy to run for Palmerston North District Court.

Ms Guy, 32, said her brother Scott's murder had inspired her to stand for the council in a bid to make Manawatu a safer place, the Dominion Post reported today.

Mr Guy, 31, a farmer. was shot dead in the driveway of his farm south of Feilding on July 8 and his killer remains at large

Ms Guy said that she decided two stand for the council two days before her brother's murder.

His death initially put her off the idea, but she believed standing for the council would be a positive step forward in her life.

"It's turned into my mantra a little bit. I'm determined that something good has come out of Scott's death," she said.

Ms Guy, who has a degree in agriculture, co-owns a clothing store in Palmerston North with her mother Jo.

Police have been investigating Mr Guy's death for more than four weeks, but have failed to find the shotgun or a motive for his murder.
