A teenage runaway has fled for the third time in as many weeks and police have now served a restraining order on her 50-year-old male companion.

Willow Perkins (14) and John Barrett were located near Blenheim, following a tip-off from a member of the public, on Sunday.

The Ohai teen was placed in the custody of Child Youth and Family (CYF) and a non-association restraining order was served on the Nightcaps man.

However, on Sunday night she fled a Blenheim CYF facility and police issued a statement saying they were again concerned for her safety.

Detective Scott MacKenzie, of Winton, told the Otago Daily Times the teen was a ''willing participant in leaving and being with [Mr Barrett]''.

He confirmed the older man could be arrested if found in the company of Willow.

Last month, the teen fled for two weeks before returning home, and was placed in the care of CYF, he said. She fled again late last month and the pair were spotted in Dunedin and Waikouaiti.

The pair are believed to travelling in Mr Barrett's red 1997 Toyota Cavalier car, registration number AYZ159. Willow is described as 165cm tall, of small build, with dark hair, green/blue eyes and of European-Maori descent. Mr Barrett is of medium build and 179cm tall. Det MacKenzie said the pair could be ''anywhere'' in New Zealand and urged anyone who knew their whereabouts to contact police, or ring anonymously, on Crimestoppers 0800-555-111.
