Three arrested for robbery, kidnapping of pizza driver

Three people have been arrested for the kidnapping and aggravated robbery of a pizza delivery driver in Auckland last Sunday.

Otara CIB detectives today arrested two females and a male who will appear in Manukau District Court tomorrow.

The victim, a 60-year-old Italian man, thought he was going to die when he was forced into the boot of his two-door hatchback car on Sunday afternoon after he was lured to a Howick house in east Auckland with a pizza delivery.

"The driver was delivering an order of pizzas when he was confronted, assaulted, threatened with a knife, and robbed before being forced into his own vehicle and driven away at knifepoint," Detective Senior Sergeant Pete Jones, of Counties Manukau East CIB, said tonight.

"He was placed in the boot of the vehicle and driven around the South Auckland before being left in the Clendon area."

Mr Jones said the two females and a male were arrested at a house in Clendon this afternoon. Some of the property stolen from the victim had also been recovered.

"The victim is still very traumatised from the experience but he and his family are very happy that arrests have been made," Mr Jones said.

Police were still carrying out enquiries into where the victim was taken in his vehicle by the offenders between the Howick and Clendon areas.

They had received some helpful information from the public and were appealing for anyone with any further information to come forward.
