One person has died following a three-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 south of Ward in Marlborough this afternoon.
Police said they were called to the scene about 2.50pm.
It was initially reported that one person had received critical injuries, and two others had minor or moderate injuries.
In an update about 8.45pm police confirmed one person had died.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi earlier said the highway was closed from Ward to Wharenui.
The police update said the Serious Crash Unit was at the scene and the road was expected to reopen "in the next few hours".
