Maggie Barry to go for North Shore

Former broadcaster Maggie Barry is seeking to stand for National in North Shore.

Ms Barry told the North Shore Times that she was seeking nomination.

"I would consider it to be the perfect seat," she told the newspaper.

Ms Barry missed out on the Botany selection earlier this year.

Cabinet Minister Wayne Mapp has held the safe National seat since entering Parliament in 1996. He is retiring at this year's election.

Ms Barry said there was a lot of excitement around the selection process because it was so long since North Shore had had a change. National has held the seat since 1949.

Immediate past North Shore electorate chairman Matt Kemp, 31, was first to announce he would seek selection. Nominations officially opened last Saturday and close on April 4.

Five candidates will be chosen at a pre-selection meeting on April 16, with the candidate to be chosen on May 4.
