Papers show Tourism Ministry cut only $375,000

While Prime Minister John Key was asking others to make cuts ahead of the budget his own ministry did not.

Papers released yesterday, dated March, show Treasury believed the Tourism Ministry could have saved nearly $6 million over four years.

Instead it cut $375,000.

Treasury's view on the savings made was "not favourable", Radio New Zealand reported.

It said "clear and robust measures" were needed to ensure money spent on tourism was providing value.
