Ratana house get New Year make-over

Houses in the Ratana township, south of Wanganui, are to receive New Year make-overs, with the Government announcing a $2.7 million project for the area today.

The project is an extension to the Government's Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme, and will provide basic essential repairs, insulation and heating for about 100 homes in Ratana.

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples said the project would improve the quality of life for residents in the township.

"It will also show other Maori communities the benefits of these improvements, and we hope it will inspire communities to invest in similar projects."

The project is due to start in the New Year.
