Nominations are open for the Gore District Council by-election.

The by-election is to fill the vacancy in the Gore ward created when long-standing councillor Bret Highsted resigned earlier this month.

If more than one eligible nomination is received, a postal voting process, using the first past the post electoral system, will take place from June 21-July 13.

Gore District Council electoral officer Anthony Morton said candidates needed to be nominated by two electors from the Gore ward.

"However, candidates can live anywhere in the country as long as they’re a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the parliamentary electoral roll."

Nomination forms and by-election information are available on the council’s website.
