Police have named an elderly pedestrian who died following a serious crash involving a car in Hokitika.

She was Mary Schimanski, 87, of Hokitika.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the corner of Fitzherbert and Park Sts just before 9am on August 14.

The woman died later in hospital.

Inquiries to determine the circumstances of the crash are continuing, police said in a statement on Thursday. — Allied Media
