A Wyoming man has saved his dog's life after sucking venom from a rattlesnake bite out of the animal's nose.
"It was 20 minutes to town and I knew he would not make it. So I grabbed his nose and started sucking the rattlesnake poison out of the top of his nose and spit it on the ground." Bobby Jenkins (50) told the Caspar Star-Tribune newspaper.
Jenkins said he began feeling ill while grocery shopping shortly after getting his dog, Tank, to a veterinarian.
He went to the hospital and four vials of antivenin, at a cost of $3500 per vial, were required for his treatment.
Jenkins said he was sure Tank would have died had he not sucked out the venom.
"It was just instinct," he said. "I saved the dog and I saved myself."
Both Jenkins and his dog have recovered.
