Magnolia in full bloom, welcoming spring in the heart of Dunedin.

Framed by the historic buildings of Aotearoa New Zealand’s first university, the University of Otago / Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka, this Magnolia campbellii ‘Charles Raffill’ was planted in 1965 by Dr Geoff Baylis, Head of Botany (1945–1979), and now stands in his memory.

A timeless blend of nature and history.
