Otago's part in the Rugby World Cup celebrations will be better known in January.
Festival and event organisers in the South have this week been sent letters letting them know whether they will get money from the $9.48 million NZ 2011 Festival Lottery Fund.
However, there would be no official announcement as to which groups got what until January, an Internal Affairs spokeswoman said yesterday.
The fund, which aims to support groups organising events during the Rugby World Cup, was oversubscribed.
The fund's board considered 482 applications, worth $70 million.
Some of the successful applications could be offered only conditional funding, or part of what they applied for, and would have the month to consider their allocation before a formal announcement was made.
In October, Dunedin City Council marketing and communications agency manager Debra Simes said there were at least 30 festivals and events planned for the South during the Rugby World Cup.
