Dunedin City Council events and special projects officer Kim Newman shows one of many unclaimed 2011 Rugby World Cup certificates and medals on Wednesday.

Nearly 150 Otago volunteers have yet to receive a commemorative silver medal and certificate for participating in the tournament last year.

"Everyone worked so hard and they all did a really great job, so they deserve a medal.

"We were lucky to get such great support," Dunedin City Council events and special projects officer Kim Newman said on Wednesday.

"We had about 400 volunteers helping during the tournament and there are 144 medals and certificates still waiting to be claimed," she said.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
