Sober friend was too tired to drive

A woman who got behind the wheel because her sober friend was too tired to drive has been charged with drink driving.
Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said a 23-year-old woman from the United Kingdom was stopped by police on Frankton Road at 1.30am.

She recorded an excess breath alcohol level of 540mcg.

Sgt Watt said the woman told police she was driving because her sober friend, who was sitting in the passenger's seat, was tired.

She will appear in the Queenstown District Court on Monday.
