Woman facing assisted suicide charge out on bail

A woman charged with helping her partner kill himself has been allowed out on bail.

Karen Robson appeared at the Auckland District Court today. She is charged with assisting suicide

At an earlier court appearance in October, Judge Anne Kiernan said the police alleged Robson and her partner had made an agreement to commit suicide.

"It seems from the information before the court that Mr Robson and her partner made an agreement to commit suicide together. She was unsuccessful but her partner died on that day. She has been charged with a serious crime which is punishable by 14 years in prison.''

She said information from Waitemata District Health Board showed Robson had "some dependency issues".

"Her condition in recent times has clearly been fragile.''

The Herald on Sunday earlier reported that Glenn Bernard Paterson, 45, died on September 10 and was understood to have been Robson's partner.

Robson is due back in court early next year
