Crash site investigated

Two senior Civil Aviation Authority safety investigation officers returned to Wellington from Wanaka yesterday morning after completing their inspection of the site where a helicopter crashed on the Criffel Range, near Wanaka, on Thursday.

A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman said yesterday the wreckage of the Robinson R22 had been moved to a secure site in Wanaka where more detailed testing would be done.

The spokesman said the authority would make any immediate "safety learnings" from the crash public as soon as they became apparent.

The sole occupant of the helicopter, Wakatipu Aero Club chief flying instructor Julian (or Julianne) Dean Kramer (52), of Arrowtown, died in the crash.
