Siblings Alyssa (10) and Campbell (12) Landrebe won the Capital Country Music Association talent quest 2016 junior group at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in Australia.
The pair sang the duet Make The World Go Away, by Alison Krauss and Jamey Johnson, in the competition category for singers aged between 14 and 18 - the youngest category available.
"It was real cool,'' Campbell said.
"It's cool to say we got in the academy,'' Alyssa said.
Their mother, Ange Landrebe, said the $2500 course included songwriting, musicianship, career building, harmony singing and a course for parents.
Kelvin Cummings (35), of Dunedin, said he was "rapt'' with his win of the CCMA Male Vocalist of the Year at the festival.
The East Otago High School teacher graduated from the Tamworth academy earlier this month - a prize for winning the New Zealand Gold Guitar Senior category.
The course included learning production, recording, touring and songwriting.
"I've got the songwriting bug now and started writing original music, so it's likely I'll drop out an album in the not too distant future.''
After the album, he expected to release a music video, tour, sell merchandise and become rich and famous, in that order, he laughed.
