He has got a strike rate that would be the envy of plenty of jockeys around New Zealand.

But Krishna Mudhoo knows not to get too far ahead of himself as he eyes up the rest of the season.

‘‘A few more wins will do, but I'll never be greedy,'' he said.

Mudhoo (22) added three wins to his already bulging apprentice haul this season when he reined home the Steve Tyler-trained trio of Popp 'N Lindauer, Baranoo and Alitron at Cromwell yesterday.

The Mauritius native has been in New Zealand for about 20 months after a short eight-month stint in South Africa, including time at the South African apprentice academy.

Before yesterday's meeting, Mudhoo had ridden 22 winners from just 112 starts for a strike-rate of 5.09 - placing him among the best in the country on strike-rate. In fact, only Opie Bosson (4.58) has a better strike-rate of all regular flat jockeys.

Mudhoo showed he was quick to learn after riding Baranoo to placings in his first two starts.‘‘He doesn't like the stick too much, so I thought I better try without the stick and it went pretty good,'' Mudhoo said.

‘‘I just used the hands on the shoulders and it tried pretty hard.''Mudhoo has joined fellow Mauritian jockey Gosen Jogoo at the Balcairn stables of John and Karen Parsons, and Mudhoo appreciated the support from the husband-and-wife team.

‘‘John and Karen have helped me a lot and they've given me very good opportunities.''

Mudhoo was matched yesterday by senior jockey Lee Callaway, who claimed wins with Come Fly With Me, Court No Fear and Stage Door.

Callaway (31) was pleased to get back into form after last riding a winner six weeks ago.

‘‘I thought I had a chance with all of them,'' Callaway said.
