Rise in ‘ODT’ readership

The Otago Daily Times has gained a 15% increase in national readership in the past year, a report shows.

The latest Nielsen National Readership Report showed the newspaper’s average issue readership increased nationally from 80,000, in the 12 months to Q1 last year, to 92,000 people aged over 15 for the same comparable period this year.

In Dunedin, average issue readership grew 23% from 35,000 to 43,000.

"These readership figures are encouraging and reaffirm our belief that strong coverage of local issues is what our readers want," editor Paul McIntyre said.

"It comes on the back of the ODT winning four media awards, so it is certainly worth celebrating.

"We will continue our commitment to keeping our readers informed and entertained, both online and in the ODT." —APL
