In living memory

Placards flew as the Prime Minister’s car left the Invermay Agricultural Centre in April 1986. Protesters rushed forward to hammer on the vehicle, which was dented.
The flag was ripped off the bonnet. Asked for his reaction to the attack on his car Mr Lange said: ‘‘People who haven’t got arguments attack cars. That’s all about it — a level of criminal activity from people who had claimed to be conservatives. But remember who told them to do it — the now Leader of the Opposition incited people to break the law and to be violent. And they did it.’’
