Rural Otago area commander Inspector Mike Cook said an open day was held three years ago and attracted a similar number of people.
St John, the coastguard, the fire brigade and rural fire service, the rescue helicopter and search and rescue were also represented at the day.
The Dunedin armed offenders squad was unable to attend because it was called out on Saturday night.
"It was a good opportunity for people to get out and have a look at some of the other services that are available to people in Central Otago," Insp Cook said.
There were plans to hold open days at Queenstown and Oamaru soon, he said.
Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, of Alexandra, was "rapt" with the turnout.
It was not only the public who benefitted from the day.
"It's good for the emergency services that we can all get together for something that's not an emergency, especially when we can get the public involved as well," Sgt Kerrisk said.
