Alexandra Board supports most promotions

Promote Alexandra has a full year of promotions ahead of it and the Vincent Community Board has swung in behind its plans.

The promotions group had asked the board to fund several events and promotions for the coming year and the board approved almost all the requests.

The list includes promoting the town under the banner of What's ON Alexandra with the support of businesses and the Chamber of Commerce at a cost of $10,026; Get Golfing is a joint venture with the Alexandra Golf Club to promote Alexandra and Central Otago on the television programme the Golf Show ($6113); Sparkle in the Park, the traditional Guy Fawkes display ($3213); and the free summer bus between Clyde and Alexandra ($4533).

An application for $15,463 for Alex Online - which would include a weather station up to the standard required for television as well as the operating costs of the existing webcam above the town and other ongoing costs - was questioned by the board.

Promote Alexandra is considering two options: setting up its own weather station which links into the webcam or linking to the proposed weather station at Central Stories.

The board wanted more information on costs before committing to that item, although it did agree to fund part of the ongoing costs. The rest of the request will be considered later.
