Aurora apologises for Cromwell power cut

Aurora Energy has apologised for a power cut that affected 1600 customers in Cromwell last night.

A company spokeswoman today apologised to the Cromwell community for the unplanned outage.

‘‘We understand the inconvenience and disruption unplanned outages can cause.’’

The firm’s crews had worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore power, she said.

About 6.50pm yesterday, power had ‘‘tripped to 1,600 customers in Cromwell, following a cable fault in the area’’.

Crews worked through the night to carry out repairs, and power had been restored to most customers by 1.15am today.

A small number of customers had to wait until 5.30am.

There would be further short disruptions over the coming days to some customers while further repair work was carried out.

‘‘These outages will be kept to a minimum and will be after hours or over the weekend to minimise the disruption to customers,’’ she said.

A power outage that had been planned in Cromwell for today had been cancelled, and the planned work had been carried out on Wednesday night to minimise the impact on affected customers.

The firm had kept the community updated through its Facebook page and website on Wednesday night, and customers could always contact Aurora Energy, night and day, on 0800 22 00 05, she said.
